Municipality of San José launches “mobile command”

December 13, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On Monday morning, the Municipality of San José presented a SUV equipped with the highest technology that will be used by the Municipal Police to fight criminals.

The vehicle has screens, video players, tents, radios, computers and an office that allows the vehicle to become a mobile command post.

We want from San José to continue to inspire other municipalities to strengthen their municipal police. One of our priorities is citizen security and we have taken actions to follow that line,”

said Johnny Araya, Mayor of San José, who also mentioned that there are already 200 cameras in the downtown area of the capital.

The vehicle was donated by the US government, and its cost is $ 198,000, about 100 million colones.

As explained by Ambassador S. Fitzgerald Haney, this contribution is part of an alliance between the entities in order to reduce crime in San José. The US embassy has also coordinated training for officers as well as strengthening the canine unit.
