Nacho is alive but needs your help

March 23, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Nacho, the tapir that was attacked in the area of Piedra de Pital in San Carlos, is alive, despite the machete blows he received from workers on a farm. The animal was attacked with machete blows, causing wounds in the back of his body and in his snout, which has caused him serious problems to breathe.

Those who took care of him put two valves that look like tubes to make it easier for him to breathe, but Nacho threw them out and that’s why he must now return to the operating room.

The tapir is now in the Wildlife Rescue Center of La Marina de San Carlos, where it recovers from the wounds it suffered and where it remains practically since he was attacked.

The people who take care of him assure that Nacho likes apple butter very much and that he eats bananas, as far as he can, because his nose is still affected by the wounds.

Now the members of the rescue center seek funds to cover the expenses of the operation needed to fix his snout and help him breathe and eat normally.

If want to help, make a donation to the checking account of the Bank of Costa Rica: 15201215000894272 or in the savings account also with the Bank of Costa Rica: 215-00089427 both to the Wildlife Rescue Center of La Marina.

You must indicate in the deposit that the donation should be used for Nacho tapir surgery.

Specialists and veterinarians are trying to determine what is best for Nacho: the use of a special membrane or another method. Experts are expected to define what is best for Nacho in the next hours and he would be operated in less than a week.
