Nate downgraded to Tropical Storm after reaching United States

October 8, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Nate, which hit the southern coast of the United States as a fast-moving hurricane, was downgraded to tropical storm early on Sunday as it advanced inland, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said.

The storm had top winds of 113 kilometers per hour and moved at about 37 kilometers per hour into the southern states of Mississippi and Alabama, according to the NHC. The entity also anticipated a “rapid weakening” of the phenomenon.

On the US South Coast, Nate’s power caused flooding and massive power outages, which could extend for up to a week. It is the third hurricane to hit the area in the past two months, as part of a particularly active hurricane season.

A “rapid weakening” of the phenomenon is predicted by the NHC.
