National Seismological Network reported 11 earthquakes felt in Costa Rica during February

Map shows epicenters of quakes felt in Costa Rica


According to the National Seismological Network (RSN: ICE-UCR), a total of located 191 earthquakes were recorded in Costa Rica for the month of February. However, all the movements were under 4.5 in magnitude, none caused any damage and only 11 were strong enough to be felt by people in Costa Rica.

Two of the quakes were related to subduction of the Cocos plate beneath the Caribbean, and occurred west of Nicoya and west of Jaco. Other movements were registered in La Tigra de San Carlos, Jaco, San Cristobal de Desamparados, Rivas Perez Zeledon, San Ignacio de Acosta and the southern region, northeast of Pitter Coto Brus and Golfito.
