New year, new gym members!

January 3, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Each start of year, it is common to see new faces in gyms. It is even common to see lines in weight machines, on treadmills, in swimming pools or in group sessions.

Registration for these places considerably increases compared to the other months of the year. Apparently, the phenomenon is directly influenced by the New Year’s resolutions.

According to Alejandro Bolaños, general manager of Multispa, this high gym season stays until March.

To the expert, on this date, the public demand increases by 25 to 40%, which includes those who resume or start exercise plans.

Most people are looking for fat loss programs because they are overweight or they have high fat rates,

explained Bolaños.

Luis Herrera, manager of World Gym, states that the beginning of the year is related to a greater interest of the public to start exercising.

This is a special time. In fact, many old customers have just come to cancel their monthly payment and new ones want to join us,

informed Herrera.

According to Daniel Guerrero, personal trainer of World Gym, during this period people want to start an exercise plan:

The interesting thing is that they are aware of the issue … they tell you: ‘we are here with goals and objectives we hope to accomplish’. Some of them even hire a personal trainer to force them to carry out the exercise plan.

To Guerrero, people who start at this time of year with the gym usually last from two to three months and just 10% reach the end of the year.
