November 19th is proposed as Entrepreneur Women’s Day

November 24, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A bill presented to the Congress seeks to declare November 19th as the “Day of Entrepreneurship of Costa Rican Women.” The initiative is promoted by Karla Prendas, head of the National Liberation Party (PLN).

It was also signed by legislators Nidia Jiménez and Emilia Molina, from the Citizen Action Party (PAC), Natalia Díaz, from the Libertarian Movement, Patricia Mora, from the Broad Front, the independent Carmen Quesada and William Alvarado, head of the Social Christian Unity Party bench (PUSC).

The project consists of two articles and aims at having the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Commerce ( MEIC ), as the governing body in the field of entrepreneurship, coordinate with public institutions, the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Organization, non-governmental organizations and the private sector, for the promotion, organization and execution of activities related to the Entrepreneurship Day for Costa Rican Women, on November 19th.

In Costa Rica, 95% of the business park corresponds to Mipymes, where only 17% belongs to women.

Currently, this country ranks 20th among the countries in the region where there is greater entrepreneurship for women, according to the 2017 Mastercard Women Entrepreneurs Index.
