OIJ recognizes difficulty in recognizing bodies of aerial tragedy

January 2, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) continues the investigations into the plane crash in Corozalito de Nandayure, Guanacaste.

Michael Soto, head of the Office of Plans and Operations (OPO) of the OIJ, confirmed that the remains of the 12 victims were referred to the Judicial Morgue in San Joaquín de Flores, Heredia, for the analysis to identify the bodies.

Soto added that this step is not easy and they face a complicated panorama, because the remains found were very damaged and burned. Forensics will try to recognize bodies through DNA tests.

It is unlikely that the bodies will be delivered this Tuesday, since a high degree of certainty is needed to facilitate the remains to the interested relatives.

The police chief insisted that it is still early to determine the causes of the accident. In the first instance they point out a possible influence of climatic phenomena, such as strong winds. A mechanical failure could have been the cause as well, which they will have to clarify with the help of mechanics and aviation specialists.
