September 8, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Ombudsman office is conducting an investigation on the impact of agrochemicals used in the country and its possible implications on human health and on the environment.

They also want to determine the type of products that enters the country and the rules that regulate them, because in recent years, Costa Rica has occupied a top place regarding the use of agrochemicals in different sectors of its national production.

The Ombudsman office also considers that it is essential to identify whether or not agrochemical, whose use has been banned in other countries, are available in Costa Rica.

To develop the study, the Ombudsman has requested reports to the Ministry of Agriculture, the Costa Rican Department of Social Security, the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor, the National Insurance Institute, the National University, the University of Costa Rica and the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers.
