A margay cub lost her mother when a vehicle ran her over. The incident occurred on the Inter-American highway, in the Puntarenas Farm sector of Piedras Blancas at 11:00 on Wednesday morning.

According to the Public Force of the area, a neighbor of the locality found the feline and took it to his house, from where he called the police.

The animal was transferred to a MINAE office in Palmar Norte, to be taken to a shelter. This type of situations are frequent, since as they are biological corridors, so the margays cross the road and are run over,”

said the institution.

According to Ilsia Olivares, in charge of the Wildlife program of the Conservation Area of Osa, they received

a female margay in good health, weighing almost a kilo and without blows or cuts. The animal is about two to three months old, and it was moved to a rescue center in the area duly authorized for rehabilitation and release to the environment. Its release will be made after it learns to hunt and fend for herself in the sector that it was found.”
