PAC asks Solís to call for equal marriage project

December 9, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On Thursday, the Citizen Action Party (PAC) asked president Luis Guillermo Solís to convene the proposed equal marriage law.

In a joint statement, the Party’s Political Committee, the National Executive Committee, the Committee of Studies and Programs and the National Board of Youth expressed support for the initiative, which was presented a year ago to the Legislature.

It’s time to recognize that a private, affective relationship between two same-sex people deserve the same rights with the same names, than a heterosexual relationship. We must push without political calculations the only humanist position that meets the expectations of the twenty-first century,”

said the statement.

The political group also calls on the parliamentary faction to jointly support the initiative and withdraw support for the project of societies of coexistence, because they believe that figure is outdated and does not guarantee equal rights.
