Poor people in San José will be given a hand

July 28, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On Wednesday it was published the final regulation by which San José Municipality could provide temporary assistance to people with economic problems.

This initiative is established in the Municipal Code and according to San José authorities, it needed to be updated. The same decision was made in Alajuela.

This regulation is intended to give a subsidy or financial help to a family as long as they can prove that it is needed. For example, a family living in extreme poverty or in a state of social vulnerability can apply as candidate. However, as stated, no temporary benefits for unemployment will be given.

If a family fits the profile, they will receive a cash help, granted only once per a financial year.

Beneficiaries from other public institution’s programs can’t receive this subsidy.

As stated, the aid will not exceed 579,000 colones.

To qualify people must meet some requirements such as:

-Living in San José.
-Be over 18 years old.
-Being Costa Rican by birth or a foreigner legally based in Costa Rica, among others.
