Walking the streets of Cartago has been complicated in recent weeks due to a series of works done in the province.
Complaints of drivers are constant and traffic congestion in the heart of the canton causes great discomfort.
However, municipal authorities explain that this is the price to pay for their most important project: the construction of a sewerage network for proper wastewater management, for which 6 billion colones were invested.
The streets of Cartago are falling apart because we are installing the new sanitary sewer that should have been installed 60 years ago and that spans through Downtown Cartago and southern districts,”
said Rolando Rodríguez, mayor of the old city.
The project started in 2007 with the development of technical studies and the first phase started in March 2016 and will be completed in February 2017.
It is estimated that 75 thousand people will benefit from this project, which includes a treatment plant by Jasec.
