President Solís won’t attend SICA summit

December 20, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Costa Rican President Luis Guillermo Solís will not attend the summit of the Central American Integration System (SICA) to be held in Managua. Costa Rica will receive the pro tempore presidency of the organization from Nicaragua.

The Costa Rican Foreign Ministry declared in a brief statement that Solís is addressing the consequences of hurricane Otto, which hit the country on November and caused deaths, thousands of victims and millions of material losses.

As consequence, Costa Rica will be represented by vice president and Finance minister Helio Fallas and Costa Rican deputy foreign minister Alejandro Solano, who will receive the pro tempore presidency of the organization.

SICA, which celebrated its 25th anniversary, is made up of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Belize and the Dominican Republic.
