Priest Araya won’t go to trial

January 18, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Priest Marcelo Araya Alpízar reached an agreement with Luis Segura Guerrero’s family, who died in an car accident in January 2016. He will not go to trial.

It unofficially transcended that this indemnification would amount to 110 million colones.

Both parties reached an agreement in the preliminary hearing held in the Criminal Court of Alajuela.

Segura died on January 12th, 2016 after being hit by the vehicle driven by Araya, who was under the influence of alcohol and fled after the fact.

Thanks to the intervention of the Municipal Police and several formal taxi drivers, he was arrested while trying to enter the Parish House in Alajuela, El Llano.

The car in which the priest was traveling belonged to the Catholic Church of Alajuela.
