Prisoners will make garbage cans

September 6, 2016 by Staff News Writer

At least 30 prisoners have the opportunity to receive 2,000 colones, as a result of making 500 garbage cans for the Municipality of San José.

We are busy, and we are in block 7 of La Reforma. This small amount means a lot to us because we have families and it is an important contribution,

said Pablo Quesada who must serve a sentence of 6 years.

Jorge Barrantes explained that besides the incentive, they are taking the contribution into account to reduce prisoners’ sentences.

It is intended that by December, the first set of garbage cans can be delivered. Then, the initiative could focus on the construction of playgrounds for children and sales of flowers.

Dagoberto Días, a prisoner, explained that they will give their best to beautify the city.
