RSN denies that Arenal Volcano has awaken

May 29, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Seismologists of the Seismological Network (RSN) denied that Arenal Volcano has awaken again, after several media misinformed about an increase in the seismic activity of the colossus.

The data was published in several national media, which the RSN denied, since according to experts, the seismic noise corresponds to a very heavy downpour accompanied by a storm.

Seismographs or seismic stations are very sensitive equipment that can detect not only tectonic and volcanic tremors, but also rain, lightning, landslides, avalanches, people, animals and cars in motion nearby, as well as explosions (including underground nuclear explosions) and earthquakes to the other side of the world. That is why we use the expert criterion to discern,”

explained the volcanologist Guillermo Alvarado.
