Six tourists rescued after drifting offshore

August 30, 2019 by Staff News Writer

Six tourists were rescued by members of the Coast Guard on Thursday morning after drifting in a boat from the Negritos Island sector in the Gulf of Nicoya. This was reported by the Press Department of the Ministry of Public Security.

The incident occurred at about 8:05 am, when they called 911. At that time, personnel of this rescue body located at the Caldera de Esparza Station, Puntarenas dealt with the situation.

According to the police report, Captain Chavarría told the agents that he and his five companions were planning to go to Isla Tortuga for a leisure trip, when the engine of the boat broke down, which caused them to remain in high sea.

The Coast Guard took the boat, along with its crew, to a safe place in Punta Cuchillo.
