Strong winds create four-meter high waves in the Caribbean

January 4, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) warned about strong winds that have reached speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour. This is a condition of high pressure system in the Atlantic, which has caused strong winds in the Caribbean Sea resulting in waves up to four meters high.

Wave measurements are based on numerical modeling, said IMN meteorologist Eladio Solano. He also commented that it is very possible that in the coming days the height of the waves will decrease and will not exceed 2.5 meters.

As a main recommendation, the expert asks visitors and local residents not to enter the sea because it could bring terrible results for both people and small boats.
