Study says Costa Rica has a high-medium development

June 8, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Researchers Fernanda Chacon and Pablo Sauma from the Development Observatory of the University of Costa Rica, explained that the analysis of 14 indices calculated from 394 indicators led to the conclusion that Costa Rica is a country with medium-high development.

The indices studied were classified into 9 relevant areas of development: economy, society, environment, infrastructure, justice and rights, government, business, technology, research and innovation, global peace and welfare.

The researchers stressed that 4 of the indices were highly developed in Costa Rica, making it one of the best countries in the Happy Planet Index, the index of Global Welfare, the World Happiness Report and the Democracy Index.

However, this contrasts with the position in environmental performance, but it still remains in the medium-high development group.
