Suspect of credit card fraud arrested

August 5, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A 22-year-old man named Vindas Fernández was arrested this morning by the OIJ after a raid on his house in Puriscal.

The man is suspected of the crime of credit card fraud. The events date back to May this year when a man lost his card in San José and noticed it a week later. When reporting the lost card, the man reviewed the statement and noticed there were 750-thousand-colones purchases.

The OIJ conducted an investigation and identified two people as suspects of the crime: one of them was arrested weeks ago for another offense and he is already in custody. The other one was arrested this morning.

We found very important evidence that tie him to the crime, mainly motorcycle items, which were part of the purchases made with the card in San José, Puriscal and Alajuela,”

said Marisel Rodríguez, head of the OIJ press.
