The central park of San Rafael de Heredia is a “paradise” disputed by drug dealers

November 9, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A public space surrounded by apparent calm is a mine for drug traffickers.

This is the central park of San Rafael de Heredia, an area fought by its criminal pretenders, a fight that have already killed some people.

Apparently due to its proximity to bars, shops and schools, criminal groups want to take control over the park.

Juan Pablo Calvo, regional head of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) in Heredia, confirmed that this place is related to one group dismantled in several raids deployed in San Rafael.

According to the police, one of the victims, known as “Pony”, would have been member of one of the groups who bid to control the sale of drugs in the park and who was been executed by the suspects arrested on November 8th.

The OIJ declared that it is important to hit these groups due to their proximity to educational centers and students who pass through the park.

The detainees were:

-Pérez Delgado: alleged Costa Rican, 26-year-old leader.
-Bonilla Esquivel: alias ‘Tavo’, he is 37 years old and has a record of aggravated theft and damage.
-Loaiza Carvajal: alias ‘Johan’, 31 years old. He recruited drug dealers in the park of San Rafael.
-Vargas Mora: alias ‘Gerald’, alleged 30-year-old hit man with criminal records.
-Salas Ramírez, alias ‘Sata’, is being held in La Reforma, with a record of aggravated robbery and attempted murder.
