The Comptroller General of the Republic ranked municipalities

September 2, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR) presented the Municipal Management Index 2015, in which 61 indicators, divided into five areas, were analyzed.

Aspects such as development and institutional management were analyzed, as well as planning, citizen participation and accountability and management of environmental development. Similarly, the management of economic services (road management) and management of social services were included in the index.

On average, 59 points out of 100 were obtained. 80 municipalities participated in this process, with the exception of Los Chiles. The improvements of municipalities are lower than those achieved in 2014 and 2015. The report revealed that community services are still the worst ranked areas.

According to the comptroller, the Costa Rican municipalities improved their level of development and institutional management, as well as planning and accountability.

However, municipalities recorded a decrease in the results of environmental development and the development of roads.
