The Criminal Court of Pérez Zeledón released the 4-year-old girl’s relatives

March 10, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Criminal Court of Pérez Zeledón released, without any measure, the 4-year-old girl’s relatives, who tied and tortured her at home. the criteria used to make that decision was their extraofficial detention, as well as the participation of PANI in the minor’s care.

The decision was announced on March 9th by the communication department of the Judiciary, after the hearing held in that court, and in which the Public Ministry requested three months of preventive detention against those involved.

The girl was rescued by the judicial authorities. Her conditions were deplorable: she was tied up, and with visible marks of violence, such as cigarette burns, blows on the back and hair loss due to malnutrition.

The Prosecutor’s Press Office said in a statement that after knowing the resolution, it immediately sent a document of appeal to that ruling, considering that the arguments presented by them were quite concrete to obtain precautionary measures.

The Department of Legal Medicine of the Judiciary reported that the minor had her nose broken, she was forced to eat soap and she slept on the floor.

The girl is being assisted at Escalante Pradilla Hospital.

Director Olga Arguedas said that the treatment the girl received was not only physical but also psychological: it was totally inhuman, because the girl could suffer a trauma when knowing that it was her own family the one that caused her so much damage.

Through social networks, Pérez Zeledón’s residents are looking for support to demonstrate in front of the courts of justice of that area on March 13th.
