The MEP highlighted four elements that allowed to reduce exclusion

March 9, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The MEP highlights four elements that allowed to reduce exclusion. 18 Regional Directorates located throughout the country decreased the exclusion percentage.

All educational levels recorded a decrease of 0.6%. When compared to 2015, the percentages had a decrease of 13.1% in night-education levels, 0.3% in elementary level an 0.8% in secondary level.

What was the key?

Alexandra Ulate, coordinator of Yo Me Apunto Institutional Strategy, commented that this strategy has been fundamental to achieve progress. She highlights 4 elements that can be considered the most important ones:

-Sensitization: Moving from the concept of “dropout” to “exclusion”. According to Ulate, that change was made because they realized that it is everyone’s responsibility if a young man stops going to school.

-Coordination: Both inside and outside the MEP. Formerly, exclusion was only a student’s life issue, but now it is articulated.

-Accompaniment and follow-up: In the educational centers which are part of the 75 priority attention districts, the reality of the student population has been monitored and a constant communication has been maintained.

-Empowerment: Each institution has accepted its reality and has endorsed the topic of exclusion. They have had good initiatives that have been adopted by other educational centers.
