The story of the Italian captain who might be missing in the country

July 24, 2019 by Staff News Writer

Rocco Acocella

An Italian captain is wanted by the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) because it is believed that he might have arrived in Costa Rican territory.

The 32-year-old man named Rocco Acocella went missing on June 17th, 2019 at sea.

Acocella is a professional sailor and departed from the pier of San Martin Island, in sailboat named Trinavis, bound for Puerto de la Marina, Puerto Velero in Barranquilla Colombia.

Since June 22nd, the authorities report an alert at sea and on June 23rd it marked a last signal, when it apparently made a possible route between the coasts of Panama, Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

The OIJ explained that any information can be provided at 800-8000645 or Whatsapp 8-8000645 to the Confidential Information Center.

Rocco Acocella is a native of the city of Salerno, Italy.

His family said

Our son is an expert in navigation, with high nautical capabilities. He was in Central America for work. After Barranquilla, he would have gone to Ecuador where he should have worked as a tour guide.”

In the region, there has been an operation involving Italian authorities and Latin American security forces.
