Traffic Police will fine people who do not use the security belt

December 20, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Traffic Police will pay attention to the use of the security belt, as well as the seat or child safety device.

This is because although both elements can save lives, drivers and their companions prefer to take the risk.

From January to November 2016, 1,386 drivers were penalized for not wearing a belt and 1,013 were fined for carrying children without the safety devices.

According to Traffic Police, these situations often increase during the holiday season. For this reason, authorities urge people to be careful, to use their common sense and be responsible on the road.

Mario Calderón, director of Traffic Police, informed that since families tend to make reunions, drivers carry more people in their cars. In those cases, the driver is punished for allowing that any passenger doesn’t use the seat belt.

To date, 130 motorcyclists have been punished for transporting children under 5 years old on a motorcycle, which is illegal, due to the child’s inability to properly attach to the vehicle or to the adult.
