May 25, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On May, 24th, at 21:45 a strong eruption on Turrialba volcano was reported.

According to Blas Sanchez, there was an immense output of ash, and

the seismic activity in the crater was quite high”.

The Seismology Volcano Observatory (OVSICORI) of the National University (UNA) estimated that the ash cloud reached 3,500 meters above the volcano’s summit (6,800 meters above sea level).

Around an hour after the eruption, there were two earthquakes in Santa Rosa de Turrialaba and Santa Cruz de Turrialba with an intensity of 3,4 and 3,3. Ash fall was later reported in San Pablo de Oreamuno, Cartago.
