Whirlwinds caused power outages and knocked down trees

August 7, 2019 by Staff News Writer

Neighbors of the Central Valley reported several whirlwinds on Tuesday afternoon in the sector of Pavas and Heredia. This was confirmed by the Costa Rican Fire Department.

According to Andrea Aguilar, supervisor of the Fire Department,

there were trees falling and many short circuits resulting from this situation.”

In addition, there is no record of affected people.

One of the whirlwinds occurred at about 5:00 pm in Lomas del Río, in Pavas from the entrance of Demasa 800 meters north. The Tobias Bolaños Fire Station said they saw the incident; however, they did not respond to the emergency.

Aguilar reported that they are in place in order to provide a constant review and thus avoid further damage due to this climatic phenomenon.
