“Window breakers” are still getting away with their crimes

January 25, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Years and years go by and the “window breakers” are still a constant plague.

The Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) stated that El Hatillo, at the intersections of the traffic lights of Circunvalación, near the Water Monument (La Uruca) and the surrounding areas of La Galera service center in Curridabat, are the favorite sites for these criminals.

These guys are incredibly quick. They see if there are people talking on the phone and whether there are bags or briefcases in the car. If they break the window, it is because they have already seen what they are going to steal,”

said Marco Carrión, chief of the OIJ assault department.

Among the recommendations provided by Carrión is to avoid driving in these places in the most vulnerable hours between 6:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.

In addition, using safety windscreen or not carrying high-value objects inside the vehicle, are also recommendations made by agents of the OIJ.

To break windows, the suspects use spark plugs and small stones.

The OIJ investigates the existence of a criminal group dedicated to this activity in Hatillo.

During 2016, the OIJ received 135 complaints for similar crimes.
