Woman with zika lost her baby

July 7, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Three weeks ago, a 31-year-old woman from Jacó lost her baby while she was infected with Zika. However, the Ministry of Health ruled out that the disease was the cause, because she suffered from unbalanced hypertension.

She was in her eight week of pregnancy and she was the fourth pregnant woman infected with the virus in the country.

In such an early age, it is very difficult to know if the abortion is just related to Zika, it is difficult to obtain a sample of such a small embryo,

said Daniel Salas, Health Surveillance chief. He added that spontaneous abortions are unrelated to this disease, unlike microcephaly.
