Woman’s body found in Escazú might be missing tourist

December 4, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The judicial authorities confirmed the discovery of a woman’s body buried in an area adjacent to Villa Le Mas hostel in San Antonio de Escazú.

The site is extremely steep and complex for rescue work. The victim has not been identified, but authorities fear it might be Venezuelan Carla Stefaniak.

The location is just a few meters away from the last lodging where Stefaniak was registered before disappearing on November 28th. Therefore, it is presumed that the body found by specialist police dogs could be the tourist.

In addition, the police chief said that traces of blood were found in the room that the 36-year-old woman had rented. However, the OIJ insisted that it cannot confirm it’s her, since the body was in a state of decomposition. Therefore, tests and the respective autopsy will be carried out.

In addition, the presence of personnel from the US Embassy and investigators from the FBI was reported.
