May 24, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The value of Costa Rica goods exports has stalled in the first four months of 2016, when exports were of $3.199 billion, which is 0.33 percent less than it was in the same period of 2015.

The agriculture sector shows a modest recovery. Exports went up to $947 million this year from $920 in the first quarter of 2015.

The industrial sector reported exports worth $2.153 billion in first four months of 2016, which represents a slight reduction from the results of last year.

The food industry decreased last year and at the beginning of 2016 it seemed to recover. Thus it exported goods worth $503 million this year in comparison with $446 million exported last year.

In the recovery of the agriculture sector it has weighed upon the good results of bananas and pineapples exports. Banana exports increased from $277 million last year to $306 million this year. While pineapple sales increased from $261 million to to $273 million this year.
