9 people arrested for sexually exploiting 200 women

A total of nine people, including two Salvadorans, were arrested on Thursday for allegedly integrating a network of sexual exploitation of about 200 women in the capital of Guatemala, said the prosecutor.

The institution’s spokeswoman, Julia Barrera, told reporters that there is a minor among the victims, who was sent to a shelter from the Attorney General’s Office.

Those arrested include Salvadoran Francisco Velasco and Petrona Martinez, said the official.

Barrera explained that the nine detainees are accused of promotion, facilitation and encouragement to prostitution.

The dismantling operation began on Wednesday afternoon and ended early on Thursday.

According to prosecutors, about 200 victims of sexual exploitation gave their statements.

The properties were closed and remain under surveillance by the National Civil Police (PNC).
