Heavy rains keep affecting the country

November 21, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The heavy rains of recent days have caused landslides and floods in several parts of the country, where the National Emergency Commission (CNE) declared a yellow and green alert.

Ivan Brenes, president of the organization, declared that authorities are studying all incidents that have been generated by the low-pressure system which has been affecting the country. Furthermore, it became a tropical depression.

Landslides took place at Bajos del Toro in Sarchí in Vara Blanca and the road that connects San Carlos with Zarcero, where several vehicles were trapped and it was necessary to help their passengers.

According to Brenes, the National Highway Council (CONAVI) is repairing this road.

He also informed that there are 370 people in shelters because the floods affected 99 communities and 21 cantonal and national roads.

Municipal emergency committees are activated.

We have had reports of flooded communities in Pococí, Limón, Siquirres, Matina and Talamanca. We have not had reports of overflowing of large rivers, but we have been informed about overflowed ravines or sewers,

stated Brenes.
