Fuel price increase expected by March 2018

February 15, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The high international costs of oil and its by-products would push up prices in the local fuel market. With the adjustment, the price per liter of the Plus 91 gasoline will be ₡624, the price of the super gasoline will be ₡653, and that of the Diesel will be ₡546.

RECOPE reported that, in addition to the changes in the international price, another factor that influences the increase in local prices is the variation of the average exchange rate compared with the parameters used in the last fixation.

This has been reflected in the price changes in the barrels of oil. In the case of Super Gasoline, in January the value was $79.8 per barrel, and in February it was $83.4; an increase of $3.6 per barrel, equivalent to an increase of 4.5%.

As for Gasoline Plus 91, in January the value was $75.5 per barrel, and in February it was $78.8; this generates an increase of $3.3 per barrel, equivalent to an increase of 4.4%.

In the case of Diesel, in January the value of was $ 83.0 per barrel and in February of $ 84.2; that is, an increase of $1.2 per barrel, which represents an increase of 1.4%.

The new variations in the price of oil would take effect at the beginning of March.
