MJ gave the tip on prison guard with ties to drug trafficking

August 12, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Ministry of Justice warned the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) on suspicious activities of the prison guard who was arrested on Thursday.

According to the Press Office of the entity, the guard named Rodríguez Saballos has been transferred to Capemcol (Care Centre for people with mental illness in conflict with the law) in the Psychiatric Hospital, to separate him from the prison population.

Two investigations were conducted in the morning in San Sebastián and La Leticia prisons in Pococí. In La Leticia 2 cell phones and 4 wrappers with drugs were seized from an inmate named Campos, who was sentenced to 6 years in prison for murder.

Campos’ sentence started in February this year for the murder of William Umaña Moya in January 2016 in Toro Amarillo.

The operation carried out by the OIJ on Thursday was one of the biggest over recent months, with 23 raids, where they arrested 19 people and seized drugs, cash, weapons and counterfeit bills.
