Three suspects of transporting drugs in the Pacific coast will spend 6 months in pre-trial detention

September 8, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Three suspects of transporting drugs on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica will spend the next 6 months in pre-trial detention. They are from Ecuador.

There are two brothers surnamed González Palma and one subject surnamed Bolívar Chaves. The prosecution is investigating the participation of a Costa Rican surnamed Araya Aguilar.

According to the Public Ministry, they are under investigation due to the event that took place on September 2nd, when a coast guard informed the Drug Control Police (PCD) about a boat that was traveling at high speed in the middle of the night.

Although subjects were pursued in Jacó and Herradura, authorities couldn’t capture them. On September 3rd, the subjects reached a commercial store located in Jacó and they threatened the owner to call them a taxi to flee.

The merchant pretended to fulfill the request, but instead, he called the Public Force. This allowed their capture.

In addition, the police found the boat on Montezuma Beach. The drug wasn’t there. Instead, the police found a GPS, a navigation system, fuel, food, and a suitcase with the suspects’ identification.

Prosecutor informed that on September 6th, near Puntarenas coast, 8 bags floating in the sea were found, which contained 280 packages of cocaine.
