Epsy Campbell: “information shows a real scam to the BCR”

November 28, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Legislator Epsy Campbell, from the Citizen Action Party (PAC), said on Monday that the information gathered so far on the investigation of the cementazo case exposes a scam to the Bank of Costa Rica (BCR).

The legislator said that there is also

an unacceptable network of relations between the powers of the Republic, where people from the Executive, Legislative and Judicial Power are involved.”

Campbell indicated that she is pleased that the General Prosecutor of the Republic has proved that the judicial and legislative investigation is serious, and added that the magistrates, not only Celso Gamboa, also have to be held accountable for the case.

Chinese cement importer Juan Carlos Bolaños and five managers of the Bank of Costa Rica remain in custody, while Mario Barrenechea, also suspended, is in a private hospital with police surveillance.

The scandal also led to the suspension of the Attorney General, Jorge Chavarría, and the magistrate of Sala III, Celso Gamboa, both for three months.
