Exchange rates drive increases for fuel prices and taxi fares

February 19, 2014 by Staff News Writer

March is the month of increases in fuel prices and taxi fares. CRH.

Exchange rate changes are prompting Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) to increase rates for gasoline and taxi services in Costa Rica. The Costa Rican Petroleum Refinery (Recope) is asking for an increase of ¢26 in the price of Super petrol, ¢25 for Plus and ¢19 per liter of diesel.

A pending taxi rate adjustment would increase the price by ¢10 per kilometer, and airport taxi rates by ¢45 for the first kilometer and ¢40 for the second kilometer. A higher increase is being considered for airport taxis because their rates have not been increased for over a year.

Rate hikes, if approved would be effective in March.
