Frente Amplio is against the logging of 95 trees at the UCR

January 19, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Legislators from Frente Amplio will take legal proceedings to support a writ of amparo filed by a citizen who is against the deforastation in Finca 3, at the University of Costa Rica (UCR), to build a new building for the Odontology School.

Legislators want university authorities to consider building the new facility at Finca 1 and Finca 2, where the enviromental damage wouldn’t be so huge.

The UCR decision would mean the logging of 95 trees and, according to Frente Amplio, it would also represent the elimination of public pasture areas, as well as the north path used to reach natural lands.

According to Ligia Fallas, a Biology School report informed that 120 bird species would be greatly affected by these actions.
