Get ready! Taxi drivers’ demonstration is full of mistery

August 9, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Taxi drivers plan to protest today and they intend to close the most important roads of the country. They decided to go on strike on July 28th.

The demonstration will start from 5:00 am, although some groups state that street closure is not part of the protest.

Gilberth Ureña, from the National Taxi Drivers Forum, explained that their goal is to meet around the 7 provinces without closing any street, but if it happens, they will not be responsible for that. However, a Whatsapp list shows that there is an entire plan to close some roads.

Ureña stated that the list has nothing to do with the group he represents. Furthermore, as part of their strategy, they will not tell where they’ll meet and protest.

The demonstration is against the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP) and Uber service.

Mario Calderón, director of Traffic Police, declared that they will work along with the security forces and will wait to see taxi drivers’ behavior and actions because this time they haven’t informed about what they will do or how they’ will do it.
