Hail storm in Heredia on Monday afternoon

April 4, 2017 by Staff News Writer

CRH

On Monday afternoon there was a hail storm in the province of Heredia. The atmospheric phenomenon occurred in the sector of San Joaquín de Flores.

According to Juan Diego Naranjo, from the National Meteorological Institute (IMN), the precipitation had the form of ice pellets, formed in the highest part of the clouds, known as cumulonimbus.

Monday morning was characterized by a high temperature, and the afternoon by intense rains in the Central Valley.

Clouds are not only made of water, but also of iceballs floating inside. When it starts to rain, some of these pellets fall due to their weight. One part is undone and another manages to reach the surface, as it happened today,”

explained Naranjo.
