Hail surprises Guanacaste

June 10, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On June 9th, hailstones took people from Guanacaste by surprise, since they have rarely witnessed this phenomenon.

Juan Álvarez, police officer from the delegation of Bagaces in Guanacaste, recalled

the last time was 12 years ago.”

Álvarez reported the heavy rain started at 3:30 p.m. and hailstones fell from the sky for approximately ten minutes.

Daniel Poleo, IMN meteorologist, explained that it was a very hot and humid morning in the province and this favored the formation of a large cumulonimbus cloud.
