Highest increase in fuel prices comes into force this week

August 30, 2017 by Staff News Writer

This week, there will be an increase of ¢43 colones for each liter of diesel, ¢25 for each liter of super gasoline and ¢21 in the plus, according to a resolution by the Public Service Regulatory Authority (ARESEP).

Therefore, each liter of diesel would go from ¢449 to ¢492, super gasoline would go from ¢577 to ¢602 and the plus from ¢555 to ¢576.

The increase responds, according to Mario Mora, intendant of Energy, to the rise of international prices. In addition, improved product is now being purchased.

With the new rules, Mora explained, fuel consumption becomes more efficient and this, in turn, pollutes less, due to a reduction in sulfur production.

ARESEP approved a higher increase than the one requested by the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE) on August 11th.
