It’s never a good time to let our guards down, because the mosquitoes that spread diseases such as zika, dengue and chikungunya never rest.
So far this year, the Ministry of Health reported 243,682 breeding grounds found in different parts of the country. Of these, 77,209 were eliminated and another 166,173 were treated by the authorities.
According to data released on Wednesday, live larvae and eggs of the Aedes aegypti mosquito were found in 2,633 breeding grounds.
Each week of 2017 has been tarnished with new cases of the virus.
This week, seven new cases of zika were confirmed in the country, with a total of 59 cases.
For dengue, the figure went from 418 cases last week, to 523 confirmed cases on Wednesday. Moreover, the year began with 13 cases of chikungunya, which already reached 66 cases.
On Wednesday, a case of yellow fever virus was ruled out in a howler monkey in Guanacaste.
In Costa Rica, the last recorded case of yellow fever in humans and animals occurred in the 1950s.
The country is alert and vaccination is mandatory for every person who comes from countries at risk such as Angola, Republic of Congo, Cameroon and parts of Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Ecuador. Otherwise they are denied access to the country.
