Nicaraguans tried to enter medicines through the northern border

November 18, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Officers from the security Forces, located in the northern border, prevented 4,000 units of various medicines, introduced under unsanitary conditions from Nicaragua, from putting at risk the health of potential consumers on national territory.

The seizure took place during a police patrol conducted on Route 1856, Juan Rafael Mora, better known as La Trocha.

On that site, officers spotted a truck with several people, so they ordered the driver to stop.

Passengers were several Nicaraguans in an irregular, immigration status, one of whom, surnamed Caparro, was carrying some bags of about 4,000 units of several kinds of medicines.

Ignoring existing, medical regulations in Costa Rica, particularly with antibiotics, the subject was carrying 500 units of equal amount of amoxicillin and tetracycline capsules. The other products were analgesics, vitamins and syrups for different purposes.

The products were delivered to the regional office of the Ministry of Health, located in Los Chile, and they were destroyed, because they were introduced in Costa Rica under irregular conditions and there is no guarantee that the content corresponds to the labeling.

The local office of Immigration and Nationality will be in charge of the foreigners’ immediate repatriation to Nicaragua.
