Poás Volcano repeats red eruptions

August 22, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The red tones appeared again in Poás Volcano.

The event registered on Tuesday afternoon at 3:57 p.m., with abundant ash output.

At different times of the eruption it rose more than 500 meters over the active crater, with reddish tones by the oxidation processes that occur inside the colossus.

This was confirmed by Guillermo Alvarado Induni, geologist of the National Seismological Network (RSN).

Hours prior to the eruption, the Costa Rican Volcanological and Seismological Observatory (OVSICORI) issued a report confirming the existence of low-amplitude seismic activity.

Poás volcano increased its activity since the beginning of the year, but had its peak from April 14th to 22nd with considerable eruptions.
