President Solís highlighted Costa Rica’s achievements during his presidency in SICA

June 29, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Summit of Presidents of the Central American Integration System (SICA) resulted in agreements that were highlighted by Luis Guillermo Solís and his counterpart in Panama, Juan Carlos Varela.

One of the aspects in which they will work is the security of the region, knowing that it must be strengthened, mainly by the increase of drug trafficking and organized crime. But this also has to do with strengthening immigration controls and preventing foreigners from taking the Central American countries as barracks for their criminal activities.

Varela was clear that this issue of security is very broad. He explained that one of the approaches will be the fight against drug trafficking that in recent years has gotten more stronger in his country and Costa Rica.

In addition, Solís highlighted the approval of a prioritized agenda on five fundamental pillars, which is one of the main achievements during the six months of the pro tempore presidency of Costa Rica.

During the SICA session, Vinicio Cerezo, former President of Guatemala, was appointed as the new Secretary General of the organization.
