August 10, 2016 by Staff News Writer

President Luis Guillermo Solís, made a statement about the taxi drivers’ demonstration and thanked the actions of the security forces.

Solís said the performance was clean, firm and according to the law.

Officers are demonstrating character, security and the citizenship supports Fuerza Pública and these men in uniform deserve our highest recognition,”

said the President.

The Ministry of Security reported that 78 people were arrested, 33 vehicles were seized and 119 fines were made for violation of the Traffic Law.

The demonstration ended at about 12: 10 p.m., when Rubén Vargas, leader of the taxi drivers, announced on the outskirts of the Regulatory Authority of Public Services (ARESEP) the end of the activity.

The union awaits for a legal answer on the subject, on August 16th, when they’ll meet with the Regulator General.

Taxi drivers have been asking the government to shut down the technological platform Uber for more than 9 months.
