Taxi drivers: “It is a great joy that the meeting has been suspended”

August 15, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Policias-en-manifestación-1024x576The Unión of Taxistas Costarricenses (UTC) reacted in a positive way after receiving the official suspension of the meeting that was scheduled for Tuesday August 16th, with the chief of the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP).

Roberto Jiménez, ARESEP chief, reported that one of the reasons to defer this issue is that they are waiting for the answer from the General Attorney Office (PGR) on the possibility of imposing an injunction to order to stop the Applications (Apps) that have been used to facilitate unauthorized taxi services.

We are really happy to know that we have a regulator that does not fear the impact of an adverse response towards the government, and he has made a real consultation with the PGR. We are now waiting for a promptly answer  because its resolution depends on us…”

said Rubén Vargas president of the UTC.

Previously, the General Attorney has said that to provide paid transport service, people should have a concession. Vargas doubts the General Attorney changes his mind.
